INDEPENDENT DEGREE GRANTING INSTITUTIONS OF BC

Supporting Dreams & Transforming Realities
Through Excellence in Education

Who We Are

The Independent Degree Granting Institutions of British Columbia (IDGI-BC) is a formal society representing both for-profit and non-profit independent degree-granting institutions across British Columbia. Established through the incorporation of the former Private Degree Granting Institutions Association (PDGIA) under the Societies Act of BC, we represent institutions that have received consent to offer degrees from the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills.

Our Evolution

Founded originally in 2013 as the PDGIA, our organization has evolved to meet the changing needs of our sector. In response to an increasingly complex regulatory environment and the need for stronger collective advocacy, we formalized our structure and adopted our new identity as IDGI-BC. The society was legally formed on March 26, 2025, marking a significant milestone in our development. This transformation reflects our commitment to emphasizing the independent nature of our institutions rather than focusing on their private status, acknowledging that independence fosters innovation, flexibility, and responsiveness to student and community needs.
